Sferical AI is a newly established joint venture backed by some of Sweden’s most prominent industrial and financial actors – AstraZeneca, Ericsson, Saab, SEB, and Wallenberg Investments. The company’s mission is to build and operate a large-scale, independent AI infrastructure in Sweden, providing secure, state-of-the-art computing capacity for the development and deployment of advanced AI models.

The infrastructure will be powered by NVIDIA’s DGX SuperPODs featuring the latest-generation Grace Blackwell GB300 systems, delivering world-class computational performance. As part of the initiative, NVIDIA will also establish its first AI technology and development center in Sweden, supporting the company’s mission with global expertise and training.

Sferical AI is now looking to appoint a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead the early technology build-up. This is a unique opportunity to be hands-on in one of Sweden’s most strategically important technology ventures, setting the direction for architecture, operations, and security from day one.

Role Overview

As CTO, you will oversee the technical build-out of the company’s AI infrastructure, with responsibility spanning software, operations, and security. You will work closely with the CEO and Working Chair, as well as the consortium of industry partners, to align technology strategy with broader business objectives. The role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, operational leadership, and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments.

Experience & Competence

• Proven track record of leading complex software projects and managing large-scale computing infrastructures
• Strong technical proficiency in developing, deploying, and maintaining advanced software systems—especially GPU computing and multi-tenant architectures
• Demonstrated experience in operational management, data center environments, and hardware resource allocation
• Expertise in designing and enforcing robust security measures, including certification, compliance, and auditing
• Minimum 10–15 years of relevant experience in senior technical leadership roles
• Fluent in English and Swedish

Additional merits/plus points

• Experience from HPC (High Performance Computing), AI/ML infrastructure, or cloud-native environments
• Knowledge of container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) and modern distributed architectures
• Background in industries such as telecom, defense, or large-scale datacenter operations
• Track record of building and scaling technical teams in early-stage or high-growth companies

Office Policy: 3–4 days per week

Travel: frequent travel to Linköping
